Gobblefest 2010
It was the first Thanksgiving dinner I've ever hosted and I hope it won't be the last. I actually gave myself a ton more time than I needed which meant I had more time to freak out about my pie. Which I didn't photograph. But dayyamn if that pie recipe wasn't awesome. Well, it wasn't awesome, it was the best pumpkin pie I've ever eaten.
First things first, dinner:
I made the mashed potatoes and the green bean casserole. I didn't trust myself to make a turkey from scratch like I had last Christmas so I bought one already cooked from Whole Foods (something I highly recommend) and just had to pop it in the oven for 1 1/2 hours.
Before you think that I made a pathetic amount of food, I will make the disclaimer that I was feeding just three people. This was plenty and I had leftovers for days. I would have loved to have made more but between all that and the pumpkin pie, we were properly stuffed.
Luxurious Mashed Potatoes (Adapted from Martha Stewart's Recipe)
Directions:
In a large pot, cover potatoes by 2 inches with salted water. Bring to a boil; reduce to a simmer and cook until potatoes are tender, about 12 minutes. Drain thoroughly, the skin should peel right off the potatoes. i used tongs.
Carefully warm the heavy cream, don't let it boil or burn.
Add garlic and butter to potatoes. Using a potato masher or a mixer with a paddle attachment, start mashing. Slowly add warmed cream, salt & pepper to taste.
Garnish with chives or diced up parsley. Maybe another pat of butter if you'd like.

- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, warmed
- As much garlic as you want
