Q: How does Instagram calculate views for your videos?

A: According to Instagram's FAQ, views are logged when a video is looked at for more than three (:3) seconds.

Q: So what does this mean? Especially now that Instagram lets you post for :60 seconds?

A: Be intentional about your video content - if you manage to lose someone's attention in the first :3 little seconds then clearly your video isn't engaging/riveting.

  • Make sure the image/shot your paused on is as eye-catching as the images you'd post.
  • The start of your video shouldn't be jarringly loud or shaky.
  • Remember just because you CAN post for :60 seconds doesn't mean you have to. Get your message across efficiently and effectively and you'll still be able to get those views and likes.
